Sharon K. Beu

Sharon Kay Beu, 74, of Poplar Grove, IL passed away Tuesday morning, February 16, 2021 following an automobile accident.  Sharon was born February 13, 1947 in Elgin, IL, the daughter of Morice E. and Kathleen M. (Welch) Beu.  Sharon attended Immanuel Lutheran School where she was in the very first 1st grade class; she graduated from Belvidere High School.  Sharon went on to study at Western Illinois University and Concordia University Chicago, earning her bachelor’s degree in business administration. She married her former husband, Bruce E. Genz, on December 16, 1967 in Belvidere.  Over the years, Sharon worked in the banking industry, owned an insurance agency; devoted 18 years serving as a church administrator, and was currently working with Belvidere Cemetery Association and John Morrissey Accountants.  Sharon was Baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elgin, IL and made her spiritual home at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere.  Music was an important part of Sharon’s life.  She was a member of Immanuel’s Adult Choir and served as the director of the Bell Choir for 6 years.  She was also the Children’s choir director at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Harvard, Il as well as the Children’s choir director for Kadena Air Force Base Chapel in Okinawa, Japan.  Sharon’s social interest included serving on the board of directors for the Boone County Council on Aging, Belvidere Cemetery Association Board of Trustees as Secretary/Treasurer and the Belvidere High School Class of 1965 reunion committee.   Deep down, Sharon had three meaningful joys in her life: she loved spending time with her grandchildren, visiting family and friends, and her church family.

Sharon is loved and will be missed by her children, Brian E. (Daisy) Genz of Kenosha, WI, Brady D. (Laura) Genz of Ruckersville, VA and Brett A. (Angela) Genz of Ruckersville, VA; grandchildren, Ethan, Madeline, Anna, Timothy, Morgan, Amy, Zachary and Josephine Genz; siblings, Robert Beu of Phoenix, AZ, and Jane M. (Laurence) Phillips of Albuquerque, NM; Nieces: Stephanie Curtis, Jennifer Beu, Megan Phillips Smith, Erin Phillips. Nephews: Corbin Beu, Gregory Beu, Jonathon Beu. Great-nieces: Gretta Crutchfield, Clara Julseth, Mattie Curtis. Great Nephews: Emmett Smith, Leopold Phillips. Godchildren: Martin Voiles, Julie Voiles Swimelar, Lisa Staskal DeJong, and Christopher Fischer; Special Friends:  Nancy Helsdon Schwebke, Dan and Satsuki Fischer, and Daniela Ostermayer; Classmates from BHS Class of ’65 and reunion committee, and numerous special coworkers.  Sharon is preceded in death by her parents and brother William R. Beu.

The walk-through visitation for Sharon will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 E. Belvidere Rd., Belvidere, IL.  In keeping with Covid-19 recommendations, facemask and social distancing will be observed; please enter door #4. The funeral service for Sharon will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at The Church.  Burial in Belvidere Cemetery.  Memorials in lieu of flowers can be given in care of Immanuel Lutheran Church 1045 E.
